This Week’s Highs and Lows

• NYCA Launch!!!! More than 50 new teams signed up! (JMB, JIB +1 FRH - and nothing bad happened so far!)
• We shipped new code a lot! Maybe this wasn’t the most relaxing way to go about it, but it’s amazing to see all the progress our team is making, and our progress towards CI/CD. (JMB)
• We turned on the new and improved EPA Portfolio Manager pipeline in production in time for the NYCA launch: it’s more resilient, scalable, and gets us more data than before. (FRH)
• Two-thirds of new NYCA teams so far are consultants and contractors/ (JIB)

Looking out for icebergs: What are the risks on the horizon that we’re watching for and navigating around?

François’ List

• NYCA has (so far, with only 3 days in) gradually moved us from ~25 to ~150 active users per day. The soft ramp up is ideal to identify availability issues before they cause real trouble, but we still have to cope with/enjoy more feedback from more and different users. We need to set up the right mechanisms to identify user issues, and deliver improvements fast.

Repeats:

• We’ve substantially improved the pace of delivery of “contained” features, as in “Momentum only”, “Calcs only”, or “Data only” features. Can we do the same for “fusion” features that require baton passing, like rebate explanations, LL97 pathway determination, tariffs?
• We have a lot of “almost there” large features or complex clean-ups that need to land soon: EPA Portfolio Manager v2 (shipped!), new BKB supporting buildings beyond Multi-Family (shipped!), Building Attribute Guesser for NYSERDA BDP (shipped!), improved tariff support, etc.

Jason’s List

• Improving clarity around our roadmap and prioritization process–I’ve met a handful of times with a PM coach to help me, which I think helped a little up front. But I’m back in the cycle of dealing with near-term stuff, so it may be a while before I make a lot more progress on this.
• We may have won some minds, and we’re winning some wallets, but will we win their fingers? Which users will actually use our software instead of just looking for the outputs and expecting consultant-style service? Let’s see what happens when NYCA is launched–very soon!
• What is our moat in a world and industry where data wants to be free, especially when some of our largest customers are city and state agencies?
• Honing our delivery process AI is helping us write new code quickly, but we haven’t unblocked the whole flow. We need to automate more of the testing to keep quality and velocity up, while keeping in mind that we are humans who need rest. I feel like the process is getting ironed out this week, and we’re moving in a good direction.

Erika’s List

• We’re getting closer on contractor compliance - we don’t want to suffer any large, unexpected liability because we are not properly structuring our contractor relationships. The good news, after research, is that we have been doing okay but have to update our onboarding and administrative processes to remain in complete compliance.
• Looking ahead to mid-year and the second half of the year in the next couple of weeks - I don’t know what icebergs will emerge yet, but we are already starting to prepare for our B Corp recertification which starts in Q1 next year. We plan for this early because Q4 and Q1 tend to be busy operationally.

• Finalizing contractor compliance policies and getting everyone on track (EP)
• Posting help videos for NYCA users (JIB)
• Future Housing is hosting a peer-review workshop on its resident experience and health risk performance metrics (JIB)

Upcoming Releases

• So much going out so quickly!
• Wrap up NYCA registration and core functionality
• New registration flow for condo/coop board members
• A bunch of bug fixes and performance improvements

Not necessarily in the next release, but we’ll be working on the next tranche of NYCA requirements, including fully landing the BYO spec project RFP functionality, vendor matching, and flood data. And landing the data quality flags in scope builder.
