2/26 User Metrics: Pre-NYCA Launch

Last week felt like a big week for NYCA launch prep with a demo for MOCEJ on Friday and a lot of testing and fixing to get ready. Folks at the city are really excited about getting Momentum into the hands of building owners/managers and service providers to make projects happen. After a lot of hard work behind the scenes, the demo went well and seemed to build…momentum (for lack of a better word) toward the public launch late March or April. Go team!

Monthly user metrics for February show stability in most areas with a notable uptick in the number of buildings created: 600+ in Feb vs. <100 in January. Buildings in February were created primarily by HPD (presumably in a lead up to their new program launching with KC3), and NYCA, MFEEP or CFHF folks.

What will see in terms of user uptick once NYCA launches? How can we get ready to understand this increased usage?

Interesting fact: half of our strong users this year (15 out of 30) have been strong users for more than a year.

• Bug Count (P-0 and P-1): 28, but 12 of them already have PRs against them and are fixed on main

Last Week’s Highs and Lows

• Demo of main owner-manager and service provider workflows for Willdan and MOCEJ. It took some prep, but I think it went well! Thanks to everyone to help get it ready! (JMB)
• Constructive discussion with a local partner, the Building Energy Exchange (+MOCEJ) on how the a guidebook for coop and condo owners that they are developing can better reference Momentum – as opposed to a more conventional project development process (MZ)
• Taking off in 2027 financially will mean building a repeatable pipeline of decarb projects for transactional revenue – the first step for this is building a funnel – and we are ahead of schedule on that front with construction scope opportunities identified across ~28,000 units of housing through three channel partners (compared to end of Feb goal of 9,000 units) - MZ

Repeats:

• Improving clarity around our roadmap and prioritization process–I’ve started to meet with a PM coach to help me.
• We may have won some minds, and we’re winning some wallets, but will we win their fingers? Which users will actually use our software instead of just looking for the outputs and expecting consultant-style service?
• What is our moat in a world and industry where data wants to be free, especially when some of our largest customers are city and state agencies?
• Getting a clearer sense of our delivery velocity. I anticipate we’ll need to be more responsive to ad hoc customer feedback this year, and this will help me better plan and prioritize our product needs.

Erika’s List

• SOC1 is top of mind - I’m not sure what it will reveal since we are just kicking off this week, but preparing to have to make changes (that can scale) to our FinOps procedures.
• Closing out our agreements and making sure our new accounts receivables are on track - this will also be reviewed during SOC1. In general, the transition from agreement to invoicing could be improved and we need to be paid on time or with less of a lag.
• Onboarding is always top of mind and soon we will have had about six months of contractors, FT, PT and interns who have gone through our updated process. It is a good time to assess and check in on how this could scale and share insights with the team. We’re also at a point where I think it’s important to hear from folks about their growth and ongoing integration in a horizontal organization

• To get ready for NYCA launch, we need to project ourselves to a near future were a lot of variables are multiplied by 10-100x. Max number of concurrent users. Size of database backups. Occurrences of Sentry issues. Probability of a malicious actor trying to make us look bad. Let’s be creatively paranoid and prepare the ship!
• We have a lot of “almost there” large features or complex clean-ups that need to land soon: EPA Portfolio Manager v2, new BKB supporting buildings beyond Multi-Family, Building Attribute Guesser for NYSERDA BDP, improved tariff support, etc.
