Race is ON!

Summer in NYC usually feels like a slow-down, but with lots to deliver this coming fall, I think the summer is very much going to be busy!

But, there are a couple ways that maybe we should slow down a bit to go faster later:

  1. Figuring out how to work with Claude (and any other AI friends)
  2. Figuring out how to work together as a team. More like bees and less like…what, cheetahs?

We have a lot of up-coming 360s, so maybe these are things we can all think about and discuss.

Metrics

  • 2025 Transaction fees to date: $16,302
  • Outstanding invoices as of today: $231,723 (-$55,000 WoW, -19.18% WoW)

Development

Last Week’s Highs and Lows

  • We sent out the final version of the first deliverable for the L+M project! (JB +1 FH)
  • I had a couple of good conversations with CPC and Bright Power about reporting needs for the CFHF project. Lots of opportunity and need to get some AI document scraping in the product. (JB)
  • Big deliverable push to the L+M pilot team (MZ)
  • Helpful, focusing feedback on my 360 (MZ)
  • Thiiiiiiis close to having a demo-able pro-forma feature. (BJ)
  • New admin section is available for testing! (BJ)

Jason’s List

  • Local politics Good news–Zohran > Cuomo! There’s still a lot that could happen between now and the general election in November, but I’m pleased with the outcome so far.
  • NYC Accelerator news is in! 🎉 We have a lot of build for this, so I’m hoping our team continues to incorporate the new tools and processes, and remains vocal and open about what they are working on and what’s not working for them. ConEd Recompete Still waiting for news
  • Portfolio/program reporting Users want the ability to look at groups of buildings in our software, whether it’s looking in their own collections for buildings that meet certain criteria or looking at trends across projects in a program. We haven’t done anything in this vein yet, but we’ll need to start. L+M, CFHF, FirstService, and more want and expect this set of features from us.

François’ List

  • One-to-many: the L+M project is a one-off analysis under a tight deadline. If we play it well, we will have built a lot of re-usable functionality that should benefit the rest of our customers too (measures, address matching inclusive of development, reporting)… but if we don’t, we’ll have accumulated more throwaway code dedicated to a single-use case.

  • Growing the team: the NYCA news further raises the priority of onboarding the right talent to help us deliver quickly. Let’s prep for it, so that we can identify the right skills, attract the right candidates, and welcome them efficiently. Ahead of permanent hires, and to flex our onboarding muscles, could it make sense to get help from consultants for Laravel expertise, or interns for testing help?

Erika’s List

  • Budget for 2H 2025 This will be finished by June close - we have some outside support to ensure we are able to look at our scenarios with a high level of confidence. Completing the scenarioes will support strategic decision-making around hiring and other resources over the second half of the year and beyond.

  • Growing the team This requires conversation amongst the team leads post mid-year budget review, but also want to think ahead as far as resources and needs that could support a search such as salary comps and regional employment considerations and guidelines. This would also require getting the documentation on worldwide work into the handbook, along with other policies, asap so everyone is aware of how we should proceed with hiring, onboarding and integration moving forward.

  • Hiring Process Along with growing the team, also thinking about how we interview and how we could screen for things that are important to a new hire being successful in the company. How we hire is directly related to how we onboard and it’s important to have an idea of how we evaluate not only the ability to do the job/background but capacity to work in our horizontal environment. Working with Chelsea this week on this topic.

  • Marc’s List

  • Execution, execution, execution The NYCA thing is huge. Once this is in however, there will be a lot of eyes on us (which is of course what we have wanted all along…)

Bomee’s List

  • Over-all architecture What’s in the application, what are back-end services?
  • Getting Marc a product he can sell Program-Projects for KC3/ConEd pilot
  • Team dynamics We’re still gelling, and we’re having more of the the conversations we need to have. Really thought last week’s staff meeting and brown-bag discussions were good for us.
  • Cash. We have a net burn that we need to minimize. If we win these RFPs, we can make strategic investments!
  • NYCA and ConEd Recompete – Interviews are done and we’re waiting for (hopefully) two big yes’es.
  • Political and economic uncertainty in the US, including NYC elections.

On Deck for This Week

  • François and I will be triaging the NYCA feature list to start figuring out how to divide it up and where to bring new resources in. (JB)
  • I’ll be meeting with Willdan to give them an update on the projects work. (JB)
  • Marc and I will be meeting with the NYSERDA project manager for the PTAC App that we discussed with them a ways back. (JB)
  • Closing the books for June and Q2 (EP)
  • A big push to keep our large real estate portfolio customer, Related, happy with a combination of off platform spreadsheets and vibe coded prototyping of new UX (MZ)
  • Checking out a NYC in person AI demo night that will include demos from Flora, Spiral by Every, Manuscript, Kerui.ai, Tabs, Wand and Markups.ai (MZ)
  • Chuck’s 360 on Thursday
